If you’ve followed me on instagram you’ll know I’ve become slightly obsessed with house plants; crazy plant lady is the new cat lady didn’t you know? So I was thrilled to be approached by Home Plant, a new business launching in Autumn which aims to deliver beautiful indoor plants to the people of the North East.

Through their website, HomePlant aim to bring lush urban jungles right to your doorstep. With easy to follow guides and videos, as well as specially chosen (nearly) unkillable plants, so that no one accidentally kills a plant again – we’ve all been there right?

First I was asked about what type of plant mama I could be – did I have time to look after? did I consider myself green fingered or more of a plant novice? which room will the plant be situated? is it a bright and sunny space? or somewhere a bit darker? From this the perfect plant was selected for me and with free delivery on orders over £50 and a flat rate of £5 for other orders. The plant arrived extremely well packaged, no damage and with moist soil ready to pop in my perfect location.

I chose a plant for my bedroom/dressing room which has lots of light but can be an area where my plants get a little neglected as I don’t spend a huge amount of time in there (apart from sleeping when I get it). So without further delay say a big hello to Kate!

Kate is a snake plant or in Latin a Sanserveria (commonly known as Mother-in-Law’s tongue). Ain’t she a beauty? I love the long narrow leaves and the way it twists. I’m also loving the variegated leaves which look perfect against the pink table and white wall. Kate is easy to look after and doesn’t demand much attention making it the perfect plant for a busy household. She makes plenty of impact in this space and is fast becoming a favourite amongst my houseplants.

At HomePlant they try not to use the Latin names because it can get pretty confusing although trying to say them can be fun! Some varieties that HomePlant will stock include;

  • Pamela – Palour Palm/Chamaedorea Elegans
  • Oscar – Curly Spider Plant/Chlorophytum Comosum
  • Mark – Swiss Cheese Plant/Monstera Deliciousa
  • Kate – Snake Plant/Sanserveria

HomePlant are starting out with some favourites and adding to the range in the coming months. The range starts off with about 10 plants, from small succulents to large, 5ft Kentia Palms. Prices range from around £6 to £15, though there are some that are cheaper like mini cacti and succulents, while others can be more expensive like the large palms.

HomePlant will be launching near the end of September but you can sign up now on their website and be in with the chance of winning £100 worth of plants! If you can’t wait until then HomePlant do make appearances locally at Tynemouth Market where recently Oscar, Jane (tradescantia purple hang) and Kate flew off the stall – quirky looking and easy to care for.

Check out their social media for the most update information, offers and events.
