It doesn’t matter how old you are, there is nothing better to get you in the festive mood, than a little trip to Fenwick Christmas Window in Newcastle! The windows are unveiled in mid-November but I usually save my trip for later in the month when the weather is that little bit crisper and a mulled wine wouldn’t go amiss. I was shocked and appalled to hear G had never been so we headed into town yesterday evening.
Every year the theme is kept a closely-guarded secret until the big unveil but sometimes when shopping you can get a little hint as to what is coming. (There’s definitely a few inspired gifts if you’re an Alice fan!) Fenwick created the first animated window display back in 1971, after the team their were inspired by department stores in Paris. 44 Christmas windows later, they’re still going and still using the same Bavarian company to help make the displays.
This year’s windows tell the magical story of Alice & Wonderland, all animated and polished off with fairy lights and decorations. I’ve on purpose not taken too many photos because you really have to see it yourself. It was dark when we arrived and most parents were leaving with their children so it was a perfect time to visit. After been big kids we headed to The Town Wall on Pink Lane for some festive drinks.
If you’re in the area make sure to pay Fenwick a visit, they do also have a Santa’s Grotto but I hear on the grapevine you absolutely must book as it’s extremely popular. To find out more about Fenwick, click here.
