The other week I was on the hunt for somewhere convenient but equally delicious for A and I to eat out at and the lovely Jodie from 24 Carat tweeted me saying I must visit Casa Rio, a fairly new tapas bar in Sunderland City Centre. Both A and I are big fans of Spanish food and it couldn't be anymore convenient as it's just around the corner from where I live - so we called in, in the hopes they could squeeze us in!
I'm a bad blogger because I've actually been twice now and I forgot to take photos both times! So the food photos are stolen from Trip Advisor. Now firstly there is a 50:50 split on TA when it comes to reviews but having been twice, I am yet to find anything to complain about. The service is great, the food is lovely, it's not expensive and it's in a great location! I never write about things I don't enjoy, it's my blog policy - if it's not very good then I'm not wasting my time writing about it. So if you're doubtful about trying Casa Rio because of those reviews, I'd ask you to give it a chance.
The first time I went, A and I ordered a Paella Mariscos with two tapas dishes & some traditional bread to share. I'm not a seafood fan but the paella was devine, so much so we polished off all the food! I went for a second time last week with one of my best friend's Charlotte where we opted for lots of tapas dishes to share. However the one's I'd chosen were so good I changed my mind about the sharing part! Oops!
Both times I've been the bill came to less than £20 which I think is fantastic for a city centre restaurant, amount of food and drinks for two people. If you're in the North East then Casa Rio is definitely worth a try. You can find it at 34 West Sunniside, Sunderland and once you've had your dinner, you can pop in for a cup of tea round mine! They do accept walk in's but they get very busy during happy hour so I'd recommend you book just in case! Give them a call on 0191 4470144 & let them know Girl in the North sent you!
