If you're a regular reader you'll know how much I love Italian food by now and one of my favourite Italian restaurants in the North East is Martinos. It's only a quick five minute drive along Sunderland's Roker Coast and so when A offered me the chance of a late dinner the other evening there, I jumped at it!
We turned up without booking and luckily they managed to squeeze us in. The walls of Martinos are lined with empty wine bottles and candles... it's all rather cosy. It didn't take me long to decide what I was after and to start I went with Bruschetta di pomodoro while A opted for Calamari Fritti. A let me try his as I'd never had squid before and it was delicious... I highly recommend both of our starters.
Now I'm terrible for always choosing pasta so I'd made a pact with myself that I wouldn't and for my main I'd chosen Pollo Milanese (chicken breast with lemon & garlic). However as nice as it was A offered me a try of his dish, Pollo Valdostana (crumbed chicken with ham, tomato and cheese) and I loved it! He's a lovely boyfriend and offered to swap, so we actually ended up eating half each.
To polish it all off we shared baked New York Vanilla Cheesecake in pouring cream and by the time we'd finished that off - I was shattered! Everything was absolutely delicious and all the waiters were really friendly.
We went to Martinos at Seaburn but they also have another restaurant at Seaham which I hear is just as good! I definitely recommend a visit here if you're looking for somewhere reasonable to eat and though you can just call in, it's probably best to book... they're very popular and it can get busy! Let me know if you've been to Martinos or if you plan on going, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
