One of the best things about heading home to the countryside on the weekends, is that my Mom always takes me shopping to stock up on delicious foods! Growing up on a farm really makes you appreciate how good fresh produce actually is and while you can find it in cities if you look in the right places - there is still nothing better than some real farm food. So when my Mom suggested heading to Broom Mill Farm Shop based in County Durham I snapped up the chance.
Broom Mill is still a working farm so you're surrounded by animals and gorgeous scenery. From delicious meats to fresh vegetables and locally sourced gifts, they pride themselves on the fact their products are all natural and don't feature growth promoters or antibiotics. And you can tell because it tastes immense!
Tempted as I was to buy the whole shop, I purchased some braising steak to make a casserole with for me and A, stocked up on veg and treated my Mom to a delicious homemade carrot cake. It was a perfect healthy meal to make, now the weather has turned for the worse.
You can't buy directly online through the website but you can order through it or alternatively you can find them at one of the many North East farmers markets they attend. If you're in the area though and are planning on making a visit, make sure you plan extra time to sample their tearoom and let them know Katy from Girl in the North sent you!
Broom Mill Farm Shop is open 7 days a week 9.30am until 5.30pm.
