Last Tuesday after work was the VIP launch event for the North East's first Krispy Kreme store! It was also their 50th store in the UK, so it was quite a celebration - myself, Hannah and Emma popped along to sample some doughnuts and take a 'doughnut theatre tour.'
Now although this is the first North East store for Krispy Kreme, it's also the first of many with a manager confirming to me that Sunderland, Durham and Newcastle stores are soon to follow with Sunderland's been one of the largest outside of London. Amazing news for both doughnut lovers and local business!
I have a huge confession to make, I actually don't like doughnuts but I do love Krispy Kreme doughnuts. My first ever KK experience was on my first ever trip to London back when I was 14 and a friend treated me to one in Harrods and I never looked back. I've been a KK lover ever since but no supermarket or popular chain bakery can compare. Afterall the recipe for Krispy Kreme Doughnut's is that good that only two people in the entire world know it.
There is a flavour to suit everyone's taste and I guarantee you'll love it! I highly recommend taking the theatre tour if you have time, it's a great way to keep kids entertained and no doughnut tastes better than the one you make yourself. If you're in a bit of a rush though and need your sweet-fix, don't worry they've even got a drive through. Krispy Kreme Gateshead opened officially last Thursday at MetrOasis at the Metro Centre (near the Yellow mall) in Gateshead - enjoy and let them know Girl in the North sent you!
