What an impressive few weeks of music Sunderland has seen, firstly Coldplay who set the bar incredibly high and then this week saw Bruce Springsteen on Thursday and finally tonight the Red Hot Chili Peppers took the stage at the Stadium of Light.

You don't need a support act when you're the boss and Bruce truly proved that and as the pouring rain didn't put off the crowds he declared “Who needs 75 degrees and sunny? This is what I want in Sunderland.”

Here is hoping that's exactly what the Red Hot Chilli Peppers wanted too as the rain does nothing to put off North East folk! It simply turned the SOL into an almost mini-festival ground with at least 40000 wellie and poncho-clad fans turning out to watch a rather soggy warm up by Reverend and the Makers, The Futureheads and The Wombats. Even the England match didn't stop the turnout!

I haven't even mentioned the grassroots music festival which happened in Mowbray Park this afternoon with amazing bands such as Lilliput and The Thieving Penguins.
