North East Cinema : Disney's Brave

Saturday, 30 June 2012

One my favorite things to do in Sunderland is go to the cinema! Since first coming to uni here and realising how much I loved advertising, I used to pretty much spend my weeknights in the Empire. I even at one point lived next to it - the staff were probably sick of the sight of me but there is nothing better in my eyes than being on time for the adverts. Sitting down in a plush velvet covered chair with box of buttery popcorn and knowing you're about to watch a really good film is just the best feeling.

I haven't been in a while due to work commitments but yesterday during my lunch I came across this trailer and article for a new Disney film, Brave and now I absolutely cannot wait for it's release. Brave is a 3D computer-animated fantasy adventure film set in the highlands of 10th century Scotland! It's all based around young girl, Merida who is a skilled archer and defies age-old custom which causes chaos in the kingdom. I won't ruin the story for you by going into too much detail but she's a fantastic 'brave' little girl with some really cool hair! I predict ginger hair will be huge next season, thanks to this film.

Now here is the really geeky bit - to make the most complex visuals possible for Brave, Pixar who produced the film for Disney had to completely rewrite their animation system for the first time in 25 years. It's Pixar's first ever fairytale and in the article I read apparently Disney are looking to build a large scale theme park in Scotland if the film is successful! It also includes a tribute to Pixar co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs.

Brave is released at all North East Cinema's from August 17th or you can catch the advance shows at the Sunderland Empire from August 3rd.
